Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to some of the questions that we get asked

How will my gift be packaged?

Each of our gifts are beautifully hand-packed to order by our expert team. We are renowned for our unique and completely original wooden crates, cleverly designed to be beautiful and to keep plants safe on their journey.

The contents of each crate are cocooned safely in wood-wool, and the wooden lid is secured with raffia bows. The crate is slipped into a sturdy cardboard box before being passed to the courier for swift delivery. All this care and attention ensures that the gift arrives the next day looking as marvellous as it did when it left us. You can read more about our packaging here.

How will my order be delivered?

We have chosen DPD as our courier.  Once your order is dispatched you will receive an email or text message with the tracking number and a 1-hour delivery window.

Our award-winning customer service team will carefully observe the progress of each parcel ensuring that all of our gifts arrive as swiftly as possible. Deliveries will arrive between 8:30am-6pm.

If there is no one to sign for the parcel, the courier will attempt to either leave it safe or with a neighbour. Please bear in mind it is not always possible to leave an attempted delivery card in blocks of flats and we do our best to inform customers as soon as possible about unsuccessful deliveries.

Delivery is charged per address. Order up to 6 crates for delivery to one address on one date and pay just one delivery charge

Please note that a new postage charge will apply for parcels that are returned to us or have to be re-directed due to incorrect delivery address provided.

How do I choose a delivery date?

Simply select your desired delivery date from the calendar on the check out page.

During the summer our plants are in full growth and should not be kept in the crates for any longer than a few days. We recommend choosing a delivery date as close as possible to the day it will be opened by the recipient.
In Winter many of our plants are dormant and may stay in their crates for up to three weeks, if kept in a cool location. The following plants are not fully dormant at this time of year and should be delivered in the final week before Christmas: Passion Flower, Chilli, Orange,  Lemon, Lavender, Coffee, Strawberry,  Mint,  Lemon Verbena.

How do you make personalised slates and crates?

Our personalised wooden crates or slate labels  may be added to any gift. They are engraved by us in house, and so require no additional delivery time.

Do you offer a bespoke gift service?

Gluttonous Gardener crates are great for product launches, restaurant openings, invitations, event promotions, competition prizes, staff gifts and client thank yous. Whether you need 5 or 500 gifts, we will work to your exact requirements to devise the perfect crate. Leave it to us to beautifully brand the crate with names or logos, and arrange swift and efficient delivery. Have a look on our corporate gift page  for more information.

Are your plant gifts available all year round?

We do our best to make all of our crates available year round but nature is a fickle mistress and some plants are simply not available all year. Throughout winter many plants will arrive in their dormant and leafless state, but will burst into life as soon as the Spring arrives. If you would like to check which plants are looking their best do get in touch  and we will let you know.

I don't know which plant will grow best in the recipients garden?

For advice about plants and their requirements please get in touch  and one of our team will provide suitable suggestions of plants which will thrive in the recipients garden, or windowsill!

How can I return a gift?

On the rare occasion that a gift needs to be returned we will offer a full refund as soon as the crate and its contents are returned to us. Please get in touch with us for more information. We are unable to offer a refund on personalised slates or crates.
